Must Read: Malcolm X’s Letter from Makkah

Malcolm KSASource: Malcolm X’s Letter from Makkah (Original post from MyMFB.com)

Malcolm X, or Al-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, is one Muslim who saw the light of true Islam through his Hajj in April 1964.  As a former member and speaker for the Nation of Islam, a black spiritual and nationalist movement, he believed that the white man was the devil and the black man superior.

After leaving the Nation of Islam in March 1964, he made Hajj, which helped change his perspective on whites and racism completely.

Here is an excerpt of a letter El Hajj Malik El Shabazz wrote a letter to his loyal assistants in Harlem… from his heart, telling them of his experience.  In it, he explains what it was during this blessed journey that made him so profoundly shift his perspective on race and racism.  We should keep in mind that this letter was written in a time when the history of African Americans in America was in making, a time when centuries worth of oppression was being spoken about and condemned in public.

“Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures.  For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.

“I have been blessed to visit the Holy City of Mecca, I have made my seven circuits around the Ka’ba, led by a young Mutawaf named Muhammad, I drank water from the well of the Zam Zam.  I ran seven times back and forth between the hills of Mt. Al-Safa and Al Marwah.  I have prayed in the ancient city of Mina, and I have prayed on Mt. Arafat.

“There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world.  They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans.  But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white.

“America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem.  Throughout my travels in the Muslim world, I have met, talked to, and even eaten with people who in America would have been considered white – but the white attitude was removed from their minds by the religion of Islam.  I have never before seen sincere and true brotherhood practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their color.

“You may be shocked by these words coming from me.  But on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experienced, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought-patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions.  This was not too difficult for me.  Despite my firm convictions, I have always been a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfolds it.  I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth.

During the past eleven days here in the Muslim world, I have eaten from the same plate, drunk from the same glass, and slept on the same rug – while praying to the same God – with fellow Muslims, whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white.  And in the words and in the deeds of the white Muslims, I felt the same sincerity that I felt among the black African Muslims of Nigeria, Sudan and Ghana.

“We were truly all the same (brothers) – because their belief in one God had removed the white from their minds, the white from their behavior, and the white from their attitude.

“I could see from this, that perhaps if white Americans could accept the Oneness of God, then perhaps, too, they could accept in reality the Oneness of Man – and cease to measure, and hinder, and harm others in terms of their ‘differences’ in color.

“With racism plaguing America like an incurable cancer, the so-called ‘Christian’ white American heart should be more receptive to a proven solution to such a destructive problem.  Perhaps it could be in time to save America from imminent disaster – the same destruction brought upon Germany by racism that eventually destroyed the Germans themselves.

“Each hour here in the Holy Land enables me to have greater spiritual insights into what is happening in America between black and white.  The American Negro never can be blamed for his racial animosities – he is only reacting to four hundred years of the conscious racism of the American whites.  But as racism leads America up the suicide path, I do believe, from the experiences that I have had with them, that the whites of the younger generation, in the colleges and universities, will see the handwriting on the walls and many of them will turn to the spiritual path of truth – the only way left to America to ward off the disaster that racism inevitably must lead to.

“Never have I been so highly honored.  Never have I been made to feel more humble and unworthy.  Who would believe the blessings that have been heaped upon an American Negro?  A few nights ago, a man who would be called in America a white man, a United Nations diplomat, an ambassador, a companion of kings, gave me his hotel suite, his bed.  Never would I have even thought of dreaming that I would ever be a recipient of such honors – honors that in America would be bestowed upon a King – not a Negro.

“All praise is due to God, the Lord of all the Worlds.”

Malcolm X Thinker

Malcolm X saw and experienced many positive things.  Generosity and openheartedness were qualities which were impressed on him by the welcome which he received in many places.  He saw brotherhood and the brotherhood of different races and this led him to disclaim racism and to say:

“I am not a racist… In the past I permitted myself to be used… to make sweeping indictments of all white people, the entire white race, and these generalizations have caused injuries to some whites who perhaps did not deserve to be hurt.  Because of the spiritual enlightenment which I was blessed to receive as the result of my recent pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca, I no longer subscribe to sweeping indictments of any one race.  I am now striving to live the life of a true Sunni Muslim.  I must repeat that I am not a racist nor do I subscribe to the tenets of racism.  I can state in all sincerity that I wish nothing but freedom, justice and equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people.”

Thy Brothers’ Welfare: Millat Thinkers’ Forum

A culture of research and development to seek knowledge is the path to reclaiming lost glory

Prof Dp

By: Omer Zaheer Meer

The author is a Director of the think-tank “Millat Thinkers’ Forum”. He is a leading economist, qualified accountant and anti-money laundering expert with international exposure who can be reached on Twitter and www.myMFB.com @OmerZaheerMeer  or omerzaheermeer@hotmail.co.uk

There was a time Muslim world ruled the planet. Humanity was lead and shown the path in civilization encompassing all areas of life be it economy, astronomy, medical, diplomacy, trade, management, military studies, foreign affairs, art, literature, e.t.c. This was when rest of the world particularly the west was experiencing dark ages. This golden era for humanity led by Muslims illuminated the dark worlds of those left behind.

However since the fall of Muslim Spain and the worst persecution of Spanish Inquisition by extremist Christian fanatic Queen Isabella and her husband Ferdinand, the Muslim world has plunged deeper and deeper into an abyss. There are various reasons of this downfall and historians have written detailed accounts covering various aspects. One key element at the helm of all the problems has been the disassociation with research and development. A nation whose beginning was with “Iqra” meaning “Read” ignored the importance of seeking knowledge. The order to seek knowledge from mothers’ lap to grave (signifying importance of knowledge) got lost in the disillusionment with the vitality of knowledge. The carriers of the legacy of personalities like Al-Beruni who was seeking knowledge even on his death-bed, left seeking knowledge at the bottom of its priority list. It is not surprising then that the nations who took over the legacy of research and development to seek knowledge had been bestowed with ruling the world.

One key aspect of this knowledge based culture of these developed nations has been the development of independent and high-standard think-tanks. These think tanks vary by ideological perspectives, sources of funding, topical emphasis and prospective consumers. In developed countries not only the Governments but corporate sector funds the think tanks too. Their importance is realized to such an extent that many countries allow tax-exemptions to these institutions in addition to other incentives to promote a culture of research and knowledge seeking.

Pakistan like the rest of the Muslim world however has lagged behind in this area. Unfortunately the culture of research has not been properly developed in Pakistan. The value of research and development is highly under-rated if realized at all in the circles making key decisions. As if that was not enough, the few think-tanks that do exist are mostly handicapped by their patronage’s interests, mostly foreign. Their limitations due to foreign funding or from sources with vested interests results in disappointing results and questionable reputes.

It was against this backdrop and keeping the importance of independent think-tanks to the development of a nation in view, I along-with some key people sharing the thought started working towards addressing the situation by taking some positive action. After deliberations, it was decided that a step in the right direction would be the formation of an independent think-tank aspiring to international standards.

A team lead by Mr. Zaheer Ahmad Meer (Chairman Professionals’ Social Network & Senior Advocate) and comprising of Mian Khalid Habib Elahi (Advocate Supreme Court & ex- Deputy Attorney General Pun), myself (Mr. Omer Meer, Chairman Liaison Committee LTBA, Qualified FCA & Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) and Mr. Wajih Ur Rehman (Agriculturalist and Social Worker) worked day and night to turn this dream of the first totally ingenious, independent and international-standard think-tank of entire Muslim world in Pakistan into a reality.

This led to the formation of the phenomenon called Millat Thinkers’ forum (MTF), the first totally ingenious, independent and international standard think-tank of not only Pakistan but entire Muslim world. The mission statement of Millat Thinkers’ forum (MTF) is Diagnose (the issues), Deliberate (on the different aspects and complexities) and Decode (to understand and recommend/develop a solution). These traits have been lacking and highly required not only in Pakistan but the entire Muslim world.

FINAL LOGOMillat Thinkers’ Forum‘s model involves quality research by a highly competent research team followed by monthly events where the best brains of the country are brought together to provide their inputs. The finalized reports then form the basis of MTF’s recommendations and sent to concerned departments, e.t.c. Its membership is focused on high quality induction to ensure accomplishment of the objective of meeting international standards. The members include top professionals, successful businessmen, scholars, media personalities, parliamentarians, social workers, academics, research scholars, students, e.t.c.

MTF has been working informally for some time and has even assisted some policy makers during this time. Information related to Millat Thinkers’ Forum including event information, pictures, videos, research and even finalized reports are now shared on Millat-Facebook (www.MyMFB.com), the largest social network ever by Muslims. However the growing demands and a desire to institutionalize led to the formal inauguration in Lahore.

I was honored to be tasked with organizing, managing and hosting the formal inaugural session which was graced by eminent personalities and top achievers from all walks of life who also became a part of the forum. The session consisted of three parts after Recitation of Holy Quran and “Naat”; the felicitation session, the keynote presentation on the topic of “ISIS/ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and Al-Sham/Levant): Implications for Pakistan & the way forward” followed by contributions from distinguished attendees. A sumptuous Iftar dinner was served keeping in view the auspicious occasion of Ramadan. Some of the eminent members to grace the inaugural event included but were not limited to:

  1. Mr. Asad Umar (Renowned Economist, Businessman & MNA),
  2. Gen (R) Ziauddin Butt (ex DG ISI & COAS),
  3. Mr. Absar Abdul Ali (Director, Hameed Nizami Press Institute),

  16. Mr. Walid Iqbal (Grandson of Allama Iqbal),
  17. Mr. Shahab Jafri (A. Editor Pakistan Today), e.t.c.

Many dignitaries including Mr. Hamid Khan, Mr. Asad Umar and Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali moved their engagements to attend the event. Honorable, Dr. A Q Khan who had prior family commitments sent his felicitation message for Millat Thinkers’ Forum in which he highly appreciated the endeavor and urged to continue the good work. Similarly Mr. Arif Nizami (renowned anchor, journalist and editor Pakistan Today) who was abroad sent his best wishes.

Patrons Mr. Zaheer Ahmad Meer and Mian Khalid Habib Elahi shared the importance of research and reasons for formation of the forum while I was honored to conduct the entire program along-with delivering the keynote presentation. General (R) Butt, Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali and Mr. Hamid Khan said the presentation was a highly expert-quality research work on the subject. Mr. Asad Umar pledged his support saying that this forum has the potential to become the best contribution to changing the fortunes of the nation. Mr. Arif Mirza, Mr. Absar Abdul Ali and Mrs. Ayesha Qazi said that MTF was the need of the hour. Walid Iqbal said that Diagnose, Deliberate & Decode is what this nation needs. Justice Bukhari, Sardar Arif and Mr. Hamid Zaman were confident that such endeavors can take us to the heights of glory. Mrs. Mehnaz Rafih said that only through such endeavors can we strive to achieve the Pakistan dreamt by Quaid and Iqbal. Mr. Khosa, Dr. Farzana and Dr. Nousheen all were impressed and hoped this will be the dawn of a new culture in Pakistan. Mr. Shahab Jafri presented his expert analysis on the situation and lauded the effort.

Overall the event was an astounding success and all the dignitaries not only pledged their support but appreciated the high quality of the research, attendees and management. The keynote presentation on ISIS was particularly praised. All in all, Pakistan once again took lead in showing the way forward to the Muslim world.

Hero of Islamic World Dr. A Q Khan’s Felicitation message for Millat Thinkers’ Forum

Below is the felicitation message sent by Honorable Dr. A.Q. Khan, Hero of the Islamic World & Father of Pakistan’s Atomic Program on the auspicious occasion of the inauguration of the first indigenous, independent and international standard think-tank of Pakistan and Millat-e-Islamiya,

“Millat Thinkers’ Forum”

                               18th July 2014

Mr. Omer Zaheer Meer,

Director,

Millat Thinkers’ Forum.

My dear Meer Sb,    Assalamo Alaikum,

I would like to congratulate you wholeheartedly on the formal inauguration of the Millat Thinkers’ Forum. It was the need of the hour that a forum be established where top professionals, successful businessmen, entrepreneurs, scholars, academics, media personalities, parliamentarians, lawyers, social workers, etc. can have discussions and brainstorm on matters of national importance and inform the public and the rulers of possible recommended solutions.

Most Western countries have such Think Tanks, which play an important role in advising the government on important matters. I hope that the Millat Thinkers’ Forum will be able to play the same positive role in Pakistan.

With my best wishes for the success of your highly commendable and nationally important initiative, I congratulate you once again on this auspicious occasion.

With profound regards.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. A.Q. Khan

Thy brother’s welfare: Forum formed to counter ‘anti-Islam’

forces

Published: July 20, 2014

A number of lawyers and several Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders attended the launch of Millat Thinkers’ Forum on Friday. DESIGN: SAMRA AAMIR

LAHORE: The Millat brand launched an ‘independent’ think tank Millat Thinkers’ Forum on Friday, four years after it had launched Millatfacebook to provide an alternative to social networking service Facebook.

Millatfacebook was launched in 2010 after Lahore High Court had ordered closure of Facebook in Pakistan on account of alleged blasphemy.

Its sponsors call Millatfacebook “the sole rival of” Facebook.

Although Millatfacebook has not attracted a comparable number of users, its administration has received endorsement from some religious leaders who called the use of Facebook “un-Islamic”.

A number of lawyers and several Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders attended the launch of Millat Thinkers’ Forum on Friday.

The participants were handed a document carrying an introduction of the forum. The document highlights the importance of funding think-tanks and exempting them from tax.

It said think tanks were classified on the basis of their ideological perspective, sources of funding and prospective beneficiaries. Apart from governments the corporate sector funds think thanks in developed countries, it said.

It said most think tanks in Pakistan were limited by their patrons’ interests. Advocate Mian Khalid Habib Elahi, Advocate Zaheer Ahmad Meer, Omar Meer and Wajihur Rehman are some of the sponsors of the new forum.

In his presentation on ISIS: Implications for Pakistan and the Way Forward, Omar Meer said the US and Israel had formed the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria).

He said ISIS head Abu Bakar Al Baghdadi alias Dr Ibrahim had been captured by American security agencies and released later to set up the “anti-Islam” organisation. “If the organisation comes to Pakistan, there would be serious implications for the country.”

Meer said Millat Thinkers’ Forum would meet every month, identify problems facing Muslims and give its recommendations. He said minutes of the meetings would be uploaded on Millatfacebook.

Millat Thinkers’ Forum patron-in-chief Zaheer Ahmed Meer regretted that research was not given due importance in Pakistan.

“Through this think tank, we are trying to highlight several issues, including un-Islamic banking and respect for women.”

Co-patron Khalid Habib said the formation of Millat Thinkers’ Forum was timely.

PTI leader Asad Umar said there was room for improvement in every sphere of life. He said if the Millat Thinkers’ Forum could change people’s way of thinking, it would be a great success.

Advocate Ahmed Awais said discussions behind closed doors were not enough. “For so long, we have failed to identify our enemy. The forum should play its role in this regard,” he said.

Mehnaz Rafi said opportunists in important places had had landed the country in all sorts of problems for their personal gains. “We need the Pakistan the Quaid-i-Azam aspired.”

PTI leader Hamid Khan said one reason for lack of research in Pakistan was people’s lack of interest in reading. He said another problem was that policies were being run on an adhoc basis. He said no political party had a permanent think thank to debate major issues facing the country.

Instead of appreciating the venture of self-reliance to peace-fully protest against the mocking of Pakistan’s laws and Islamic faith with the backing of FB’s administration, some quarters have been pursuing an agenda of targeting MFB on various pretexts. From declaring it non-sustainable to non-acceptable they have done pretty much what was done with the country it came out from in 1940’s. To get a more detailed knowledge please read my open letter to Mr. Javed Ch:

https://omerzaheermeer.wordpress.com/2010/10/16/open-letter-to-mr-javed-chaudhary-on-his-recent-article-read-and-share/

Recently a leading English publication proudly republished an extract from an old distorted report on MFB claiming it to be on the verge of collapse, as one of its “top” stories from 2013. The strategy of “contained growth” with a focus on stability has proven to be a success considering all the challenges and limitations faced by MFB’s team. The very existence and success of MFB is the biggest answer to these baseless “reports”. Unfortunately the moral courage to apologize is too much to ask for. We hope instead of using lowly tactics to fame, such people will start doing the hard-work and as per the journalistic ethics actually contact an organization before publishing wrong and distorted reports about them.

Instead of writing a detailed rebuttal, I decided to reproduce below some useful information answering the propaganda. You may find it interesting and can decide on your own about the people writing such report which has been proven wrong.

Useful information you may find interesting.

Why Facebook is declared Haram and why is MFB made? Why should you unite at it?

Assalam o Alikum Wa Rehmat Ullah Hi Wa Barakatuhu, (Peace, Blessings and Bounties be upon you)

source: http://mymfb.com/blog/43838/are-you-equipped-to-answer-the-doubters/

Following the recent roundtable conference on “Blasphemy by Facebook and Role of Muslim Youth on Social Media” organized by Millatfacebook at Hamdard Centre, Lahore and the ensuing debate, I believe it is high time that we refresh our memories a little so we are better equipped to clarify to  our friends who have any doubts or otherwise are apologetics.

A resolution was presented by Allama Khalil Ur Rehman Qadri and supported by all including veteran scholar Mufti Muhammad Khan Qadri, Allama Ahmad Ali Kasuri (Former Chairman Quran Board), Sardar Arif Rasheed (Former Minister), Mian Khalid Habib Elahi (Former Attorney General Punjab), Dr. Asrar Hussain, Dr. Rafiq Akhtar, Mr. Amjad Rauf Khan, Mr. Azhar Siddique Advocate,  e.t.c. A lot of other dignitaries from all walks of life including Mr. Ahsan Rasheed (President PTI Punjab), V. Admiral (R) Javaid Iqbal, Barrister Walid Iqbal, Mr. Ejaz Chaudhary, Col (R) Ejaz H Minhas, senior lawyers and practitioners from leading bars of law, IT professionals, Journalists, e.t.c were also present lending their support, while General (R) Hameed Gul sent a special message for the occasion. I apologize to all other respectable participants whose names I couldn’t write from the memory but they all are equally important and respectable.

It is the first time that a consensus has been built that FB is Haram due to its explicit as well as implicit support for ridicule of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. The detailed resolution will be released on MFB later along with the details of the conference but the message was as below:

Facebook is Haram for all Muslims due to it’s openly declared support for the ridicule of Prophet Muhammad PBUH per its own statements and admission to the world media and through violations of its own guidelines in supporting the ridiculing caricatures “competition”  and continuous provision of its platform for blasphemy and ridicule of Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH & thereby violating the emotions of 1.5 Billion plus Muslims. This is specially hypocritical when it takes prompt action against anyone even questioning Holocaust or praising Hitler by deleting their accounts. Furthermore any other site which openly supports blasphemy or does any of the above is considered objectionable and same.

At the same time it is incumbent upon all peace-loving humans and specially Muslims to unite at MFB and work for the cause of harmony, Islam and defending the honour of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. This is considered mandatory (Farz) for Muslims.

It has created a heated discussion in social media communities as well as in intellectual circles. I’m copying my famous interview with Hindustan Times which covers almost all the commonly asked questions which are being asked again today and thus are extremely relevant. Remember Facebook officially announced their support for the ridicule of Prophet Muhammad :pbuh in its statements to the world media and is continuing to do so with the ridiculing caricatures still on FB and it is still fully supporting this heinous act. This is interesting as the same FB would delete your account if you even dare to praise Hitler as that “offends millions of Jews’ sentiments”. How about the sentiments of 1.5 Billion plus Muslims than? Google, Twitter or others do NOT support such acts but rather take corrective action when abusive items are reported .

Please remember that MFB is to unite all peaceful people on an alternate platform while specially uniting Muslims. Despite all the hurdles & limited resources, MFB has evolved a lot and will continue to do so.

Spread the matter in this blog to all your friends and family and memories it to be better equipped to deal with the apologetics, pseudo liberals and others including those genuinely confused. The interview is as below:

Islam has a branding problem: Millatfacebook CEO

I was curious about what’s going on in the mind of the men who launched Millatfacebook — a Facebook-wannabe for Muslims. So, I contacted Lahore-based Omer Zaheer Meer, the CEO of Global IT Vision (Pvt) Ltd, the company that launched Millatfacebook. But even after more than a dozen telephone calls, emails and one story later, I can’t say with confidence whether I’ve understood the man or his motives.

All of 25, Meer comes across as a sincere, open and passionate person, aggrieved by what he calls an onslaught on Islam. In this first interview to the media, he speaks passionately about the motivation behind this website — to ward off attacks on Islam. I asked him why is Islam perceived as a violent religion? His answer: “Put simply, branding problem.”

Why did you launch Millatfacebook?

In protest of the blasphemous, anti-social and hypocritical events of ridiculing Prophet Muhammad which were supported by Facebook. Despite requests from hundreds of thousands of users, who reported the pages to Facebook, let alone taking any action they (Facebook) didn’t even bother to reply. They did reply to media though, saying that they fully supported these events and would do so in the future in the name of freedom of expression.

It’s very strange as the same Facebook administration speaking to the same media only last year stated that they cannot allow such abuse and hatred directed on the basis of religions and races. The only difference was that time it wasn’t about Islam but the Holocaust and racism (which we denounce too).

We should all express our freedom and rights with sensibility, care and consideration for our fellow human beings. My freedom shouldn’t mean that I go out on the street and start hitting my neighbour every day and say “that’s my freedom”. No, that would be an assault as for all internationally accepted laws and regulations.

Freedom of a person ends where the freedom of another person starts. So why is it that when it comes to the Holocaust or racism, this rule is respected but when it comes to the Muslim faith, it’s not? Is it the new Holocaust for Muslims in the making? The signs are the same.

Why call it “Facebook”?

Good question. Actually it is called millatfacebook and that’s because just like a picture conveys more than a thousand words, it conveys, without speaking a single word what we are about which is: “the rival and alternate Facebook created by Muslims for all the decent people of all faiths to come together and interact in a socially responsible and considerate manner.”

And we are not against Facebook name but the hate-mongering, Islamophobic and anti-humane policies of the Facebook administration.

The colour scheme, the fonts resemble Facebook…why?

The theme is certainly different, the logos and colour scheme are unique. There are many different, additional and better features. However, there may be a similar feel due to some common basics all social networking platforms have. It’s just like asking Toyota or BMW why they have an accelerator or gear box when Mercedes have them. Well, these are the basic essentials but their designs, models and basically the products are different.

Aren’t you creating a social networking ghetto?

A ghetto? No, no, no…not at all. On the contrary we are offering an alternate platform where people of all faiths can come in harmony and interact besides also try to understand Muslims for what they really are and not what the popular biased propaganda portrays.

And this is based on the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad who created multi-religion communal harmony through “Mesaq-e-Medina” (Accord of Medina) which ensured that people of all faiths, be it Muslims, Jews, Pagans or any other, lived in peace and harmony. millatfacebook is based on those same principles so creating any ghetto is certainly out of question.

Aren’t you capitalising on Islam-under-attack rhetoric?

No, absolutely not. In Islam, the most important thing is the intention. Our intention, as explained before, is to lodge our protest in a positive and practical way, make an example out of the indecent and hypocritical FB and provide an alternate to decent people of all faiths specially Muslims.

And even in material terms we are pouring in our resources on this venture without any expectations of returns whatsoever. If there maybe any future returns, so be it but that is neither the reason nor the prime objective.

Should all Muslims leave Facebook and join millatfacebook?

Yes, of course. No doubt about it. And not only just Muslims, all decent people of all faiths should.

What is the revenue model of this website?

Basically the objective is to provide a platform decent people of all faiths, to come together and interact in a way that is socially responsible. It’s not created for profiteering but in future different income streams may start to help support and grow the venture but that is certainly not the primary objective.

Who is funding this venture?

Being a Muslim it’s our faith that Allah Almighty is funding it. And Global IT Vision (Pvt) Ltd is honoured to be the initial source for this.

What is the current valuation of millatfacebook?

One can estimate the value of millatfacebook based on its current ranking of 18,860th among over six billion websites globally in just two weeks as per Alexa. In Pakistan, it is now ranked at 186th, 359th in Indonesia, 490th in Malaysia, 524th in Bangladesh and 6,872nd in India amongst the millions of websites in each of these countries, again all this in just approximately 2 weeks.

What is your exit strategy? Do you have an IPO in mind?

We don’t have any such intention at the moment as it was not a business venture. So the question of an exit strategy doesn’t arise. The purpose is to create a platform as mentioned before.

Is Islam truly under attack?

Let’s take a deep breath and honestly analyse the situation around the world. Starting from being considered a natural adversary by the forces of the new world order to the need to capture vital resources and paths which are under Muslim rule, by forces of the order, it is all clear for those wanting to see.

Take a look across the globe, be it Palestine, Chechnya, Kashmir, Burma, Afghanistan, Iraq, it is the Muslims at the receiving end of the atrocities. Islamic faith is been prosecuted and a campaign of smear and propaganda has been carried out against it.

West had been accused of many massacres and Holocaust. Isn’t it another Holocaust in the making, this time directed at Muslims? The signs are the same.

What will you do if a Draw Mohammed page is created on millatfacebook?

Unlike Facebook, we take strict action against attacks not just on Islam but defamation of any religion or other violations of decency.

As soon as such things are reported, not only are the offending pages removed, but the account of the offender is terminated and furthermore, the offender’s IP is permanently blocked to stop them from accessing the site again, easily.

Why is Islam perceived as a violent religion?

Put simply, branding problem. Unfortunately, Islam falls on the wrong side of the new world order. The power in the new world order and the control of global media resides with anti-Muslim lobbies, who consider Islam their natural adversary. On one hand they commit atrocities against Muslims in Chechnya, Palestine, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq and Burma. On the other hand the ruling elite in the Islamic countries are acting as poodles to these forces.

Some prime example of the bias, prejudice and propaganda against Muslims is evident from the facts that the IRA blasts are not labelled Christian terrorism. The incidents in Sri-Lanka are not called Buddhist terrorism. The Melagaon blasts, Samjhaota Express Massacre or the Gujrat massacre of Muslims are not termed Hindu terrorism. The Israeli atrocities and attacks on civilian peace activists in international waters are not referred to as Zionist terrorism.

But if any such incident involves a Muslim, they are branded as Muslim terrorists. Why?

Similarly, Indian bombs were not labelled “Hindu bombs” nor were Israeli atomic bombs were called “Zionist bombs” and American nuclear bombs were certainly never referred to as “Christian bombs”. Even the Soviet or Chinese bombs were not called “Communist bombs”.

But Pakistan’s atomic bombs are labelled “Islamic bombs” by these same forces pursuing the Zionist agenda which deem Islam as its natural adversary, in the name of the new world order.

As for the Islamic concept of Jihad which is normally wrongly associated with violence, we need to bring forward the true voice of Islam. It is essentially a concept of self-defence not aggression, which is justified by all international laws and standards. Jihad says that if you, your family or community is attacked, then defend yourselves but even in this defence do not harm any innocent, women, child or elderly and it goes to the extent to prohibit even any unnecessary harm to the nature or infrastructures.

Furthermore if someone tries to abuse the name of a religion you cannot blame that religion for it. Just like because of the IRA blasts or Gujarat massacre of Muslims I cannot say that Christianity or Hinduism are violent religions, the same is also true for Islam.

A lost case, an upheld cause! (Ghazi Illam ud Din Shaheed, the British, Allama Iqbal and Quaid e Azam)

“Blasphemy has no place in a liberal and tolerant society offering equal opportunities and liberties to each citizen. Blasphemy breeds polarization, hence destabilises the society through mistrust, and hatred. Blasphemy needs to be curbed through harshest capital punishment while ensuring essential safeguards against miscarriage of justice.”

Quaid and the Ghazi:

Quaid-i-Azam lost only one case during his entire practising tenure, that too by choice. He chose to defend a “murderer” who had been convicted by the trial court, where he had opted for guilty plea and was not interested to defend his act. Quaid-i-Azam urged the accused to enter a plea of not guilty and to say that he had acted due to extreme provocation. The fact that accused was only 19 years old would have also worked in his favour. However, the accused refused to offer such a plea and insisted that he was proud of his actions. This case, cited as Ilam Din vs. Emperor AIR 1930 Lahore 157, was the only one suit that the Quaid ever lost. Given the stance by the accused, technically it was a lost case, yet the Quaid chose to contest it to uphold a cause. It was the case of Ghazi Ilam Din Shaheed.

The Case:

One Prashaad Prataab had authored a blasphemous book. Rajpal a Hindu book publisher from Lahore took the responsibility of publishing the book in 1923 and pledged not to disclose the author’s real name. Pressure from the Muslim community resulted in the matter being taken to Session court Lahore, which found RajPal guilty and sentenced him. Subsequently Rajpal appealed against the decision of Session Court in the Lahore High court. The appeal was heard by Judge Daleep Singh who acquitted Rajpal on the grounds that criticism against the religious leaders, no matter how immoral, was not covered by S.153 of the Indian Penal Code.

Thus Rajpal could not be sentenced as law did not cover blasphemous criticism against religion.

High Court decision was widely criticised and protests were made against it by Muslims of India. Little did anyone expect that one young man’s course of action would bring about a significant change in the law, ensuring that Islam would be covered by blasphemy laws.Creation of Pakistan was still a distant dream in the hearts of the Indian Muslims.

This event was one of the contributory causes that culminated in Allama Iqbal’s proposal for a separate Muslim state in 1930, which resulted in the creation of Pakistan in 1947.

Gave my life to defend the honour of our Last Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W:

As the noose was put around the neck of Ilam Din, he repeated before the huge crowd: “O people! Bear witness that I killed Rajpal to defend our last Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, and today they are going to hang me. I am sacrificing my life whilst reciting the kalimah shahadah (testimony of faith).” The young man was buried without any funeral. Mass demonstrations broke out. The inhabitants of Lahore wanted Ilam Din’s body returned in order to give him an Islamic funeral. Allama Iqbal and Mian Abdul Aziz campaigned to have the body of Ilam Din returned to Lahore for the funeral prayer. The British were worried that this would incite unrest. Only after Allama Iqbal gave his assurance to the British that no riots would erupt, permission was given.

  • Around 200,000 Muslims attended the funeral prayer.
  • Maulana Zafar Ali Khan said ahead of the burial: “Alas! If only if I had managed to attain such a blessed status!” Allama Iqbal carried the funeral bier along its final journey.
  • As Iqbal placed the body of Ilam Din into the grave, he tearfully declared: “This uneducated young man has surpassed us, the educated ones.”

Repercussions of the sacrifice:

  • The martyrdom of Ilam Din on 31st October 1929 had far-reaching repercussions.
  • A provision Section 295A was added to the Indian Penal Code, making insult to the religious beliefs of any class an offence.
  • The Pakistan Penal Code makes it a crime for anyone who “by words or visible representation or by an imputation or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiled the name of the Muhammad”. In 1982, Section 295B was added to the Pakistan Penal Code punishing “defiling the Holy Quran” with life imprisonment.
  • In 1986, Section 295C was introduced, mandating the death penalty for “use of derogatory remarks in respect of the Holy Prophet” in keeping with Ilam Din’s legacy.

Quaid e Azam and Allama Iqbal’s perspectives:

Since Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah defended Ilam Din in his murder trial at appellate level, it can be inferred that he favoured the ‘death sentence for blasphemy’. Same was endorsed by Allama Iqbal.

On his vision of Pakistan, the Quaid had said: ‘The tolerance and good will Emperor Akbar showed to all the non-Muslims is not of recent origin. It dates back to thirteen centuries ago when our Prophet not only by words but by deeds treated the Jews and Christians after he had conquered them with the utmost tolerance and regard and respect for their faith and beliefs’.

Quaid was an inexorable defender of civil liberties. He stood for Bhagat Singh’s freedom and condemned the British government in the harshest language when no one else dared.

His landmark speech before the Constituent assembly of Pakistan on 11 August, 1947 envisaged equality for all Pakistanis, irrespective of religion, cast and creed: ‘…Now, if we want to make this great State of Pakistan happy and prosperous, we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well-being of the people, and especially of the masses and the poor. If you will work in co-operation, forgetting the past, burying the hatchet, you are bound to succeed. If you change your past and work together in a spirit that everyone of you, no matter to what community he belongs, no matter what relations he had with you in the past, no matter what is his colour, caste or creed, is first, second and last a citizen of this State with equal rights, privileges, and obligations, there will be no end to the progress you will make…We should begin to work in that spirit and in course of time all these angularities of the majority and minority communities, the Hindu community and the Muslim community… will vanish….You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State….We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State…Now I think we should keep that in front of us as our ideal and you will find that in course of time Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State’.

Truth is that which even the adversaries accept – L K Advani from assasination to acknowledgement:

L K Advani, the extremist right-wing Hindutva torch bearer and 1992 Anti-Babri Masjid “yatra” fame Indian politician, who was once named in a police report for an alleged assassination attempt on Jinnah’s life, while visiting Pakistan, stoked off a huge scandal in India, when he referred to Jinnah as a great leader.

At Quaid’s Mausoleum, he wrote:

‘There are many people who leave an irreversible stamp on history. But there are few who actually create history. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah was one such rare individual. His address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on August 11, 1947 is really a classic and a forceful espousal of a secular state in which every citizen would be free to follow his own religion. The State shall make no distinction between the citizens on the grounds of faith. My respectful homage to this great man’.

Only that he is unaware as to what he referred to as a secular trait is infact the very essence of Islam.

Conclusion:

Issue of blasphemy law has to be seen in the spirit espoused by the great Quaid. Blasphemy has no place in a liberal and tolerant society offering equal opportunities and liberties to each citizen. Blasphemy breeds polarization, hence destabilises the society through mistrust, and hatred. Blasphemy needs to be curbed through harshest capital punishment while ensuring essential safeguards against miscarriage of justice.
